When trucks arrive at our Fleet Management Centre at the end of a long-term rental contract, it is the Gateman’s role to inspect the truck thoroughly and document the findings to determine which machines are in good enough condition to join Toyota's Approved Used Trucks fleet, and therefore undergo our rigorous refurbishment process.
There are many elements of the truck that are important to consider; such as the hours that a truck has worked, its age, general condition and if it has sustained any damage that may affect the trucks stability, structure or ability to perform how it should.
“Wiggy” is our Gateman. When trucks arrive at our Fleet Management Centre in Leicestershire, it is the role of the Gateman to inspect and fleet each truck returning to us from long-term contracts.
Once a truck has been deemed to be in good enough condition to undergo the Toyota Approved Used refurbishment process, its first stop on the restoration journey is one of our workshops at Toyota’s Old Dalby Fleet Management Centre (FMC).
Our team of engineers identify and fix any faults with the truck, and replace worn or damaged components, such as lift chains, axle and mast bushes, the engine, battery, tyres, and more.
Pete Johnson is one of the team of highly skilled workshop engineers at our FMC. He and his colleagues carry out a meticulous inspection of every returning truck.
Once a used truck has been through our meticulous mechanical inspection, it then is passed on to our highly skilled team of Paint Spray Technicians, including Rob Hewson.
This is the stage of the refurbishment process that has the most visible impact on a used truck is the application of a smart new paint finish, transforming the used truck in to a machine that looks brand new.
Rob has been a Paint Spray Technician at our Fleet Management Centre for just over two years and brings plenty of experience to the role having previously worked as a surface treatment specialist.
Before the truck is cleared to leave our Fleet Management Centre and begin its ‘second life’ at a new customer site, every truck undergoes a pre-delivery inspection and thorough examination by one of our experienced senior engineers.
At this stage, the senior engineer meticulously checks everything on the truck. They will check the forks, mast, hydraulics, steering, cabling, wheels, tyres, battery and engine to make sure everything has been fixed to an Approved Used standard and are in perfect working condition.
