Today’s interview is with Rachel Thomas, our National Hand Pallet Truck Manager. We asked Rachel a few questions about working for Toyota:
I have worked for Toyota Material Handling for the past 11 years. I joined the business as a Rental Support Specialist, assisting the sales team in providing the best possible hire solutions for our customers. After five years I was appointed Rental Operations Manager, running the Short Term Hire function and a fleet of 4,000 trucks. In February 2017, I was appointed to my current role of National Hand Pallet Truck Manager.
I am responsible for everything to do with hand pallet trucks! That ranges from product development where I liaise with our manufacturing facility in Sweden right through to commercial and product support across the UK. In addition, I have a team of 40 field-based, dedicated hand pallet truck specialists who service and maintain 55,000 hand pallet trucks nationally from their fully kitted out vans.
One of the things I love about my job is that no two days are the same. In any given week for example, I will be speaking to customers to receive feedback on the level of service my team provides, delivering training on the BT Lifter range and coaching team members for their personal development. Recently I spent a day in our Warrington workshop assembling hand pallet trucks alongside our regular technicians that build to order and prepare the trucks for delivery.
I’m proud to work for Toyota because it’s a world renowned quality brand. I’ve had the opportunity to gain experience in different areas of the business and I hope to continue along that path.
Undoubtedly, the hand pallet truck is my favourite. They are manufactured in Sweden using the Toyota Production System and proven to last up to 5 times longer than any other. Fully serviceable, this piece of equipment is versatile, easy to operate and valued by customers in many different applications. The history goes back to 1947 when BT produced the first model – more than 3 million trucks later, it’s still going strong.
