The Toyota Technician of the Year competition was created last year by the technical training team at Toyota and after a very successful 2017 competition, there was no doubt we would be doing it again in 2018. The competition assessed the technical knowledge and best practices of our service technicians and as one of our values is Kaizen (continuous improvement), this competition shows our commitment to delivering the highest levels of after sales care possible to our customers.
The first round of the competition was to answer a series of questions designed by the Technical Training team. These questions tested their general engineering knowledge along with specific questions based around counterbalance, reach trucks and other warehouse equipment.
From that, the eight finalists were decided. The final was held at our Leicester business centre and the finalists were asked to complete a set of challenges, which included finding and fixing faults on trucks and being quizzed on their general safety knowledge. From this three technicians were chosen and the winner, Lenny Green was crowned Toyota Technician of the Year at our 2018 Kick off Conference.
Phill Bird, after sales director commented “the Technician of the Year competition has been a great way to promote the Toyota values such as continuous improvement and challenge which help us to benchmark and improve the level of after sales service which our customers receive. The competition has been a great way for us to see first-hand the levels of technical knowledge and skills which our service technicians possess, but it has also provided us with an opportunity to reward members of our team who are displaying exceptional standards of service and I would like to personally thank and congratulate all who took part.”
