Following on from the success of the first ever Technician of the Year competition, it was decided to extend this opportunity to Toyota’s unique Hand Pallet Truck specialist division.
Toyota is the only company to have a dedicated team of Hand Pallet Truck Specialists that service and repair all makes of hand pallet truck. Along with servicing and repairing trucks they can also provide customers with new trucks.
In order to do this, they require high levels of technical knowledge in order to perform repairs and maintenance on their trucks. But they also need a high level of product knowledge to provide potential customers with the benefits of purchasing our market leading hand pallet truck.
The first test took place online on the Toyota Academy online learning portal and consisted of a series of online questions which tested their technical knowledge, product knowledge and Health and Safety.
Following completion of the online assessments, 8 technicians were chosen to contest the final. It consisted of a series of practical exercises including servicing and maintenance on a selection of trucks to further assess the technical knowledge and skills of the technicians.
This competition was very close fought with a high display of skill and knowledge displayed by everyone involved.
Phill Bird, after sales director commented “the Hand Pallet Truck Specialist of the Year competition has been a great way to promote the Toyota values such as continuous improvement and challenge which help us to benchmark and improve the level of after sales service which our customers receive.”
Following the success of this event, plans are in place to hold this event bi-annually.
Bird adds “Our team of hand pallet truck specialists are unique to the industry and requires a very mixed skillset. From our NPS results we are aware that our customers are receiving high levels of service from our hand pallet truck specialists and we wanted to recognised and reward their contribution to our Customer First culture. I’d personally like to thank everyone who was involved in the competition for their hard work and commitment.”
