Renewing Resources with Toyota

Toyota, Forklifts, Material Handling, BT, Counterbalance Toyota forklifts are helping to increase productivity, safety and reliability at one of the UK’s most innovative recycling companies.

William Tracey Ltd is Scotland’s leading recycling and waste management company. With a turnover of £24 million, the company employs over 200 people across seven sites in central Scotland and has been working with Toyota for 12 years.

The company uses seven Toyota forklifts across its Paisley and Linwood sites in hazardous waste handling as well as paper, glass and timber recycling. Reliability and durability are essential with both sites operating around the clock and the trucks handling thousands of tonnes of material each day.

Over 1000 different chemical substances are handled at the Paisley site, with around 100 tonnes being transported by Toyota forklifts every day. A significant amount of mixed waste flammable solvents are delivered to the site and to ensure even greater levels of safety, these materials are handled by a battery powered Toyota 7FB15 forklift which has been customised with explosion proof Pyroban technology.

The Linwood site uses four Toyota forklifts to handle timber, paper, plastic, tin cans and glass, at least 80% of which is recycled. Over 50,000 tonnes of wood waste and wooden pallets are received each year at Linwood, all of which is offloaded by Toyota forklifts.

Specially customised with a bale clamp, the 3 tonne diesel powered Toyota forklift is in operation for 20 hours a day, handling over 25,000 tonnes of paper, plastic and tin cans each year. Responsibility for loading materials of such volume into containers during the recycling process makes reliability and efficiency paramount.

The Sales Manager for Scotland said:

“Toyota forklifts offer ideal materials handling solutions for companies working in recycling and waste management. With industry-leading levels of health and safety, the trucks are well suited for working in hazardous conditions; they are also renowned for their durability and reliability, making them a good choice for round-the-clock operations.”
